Lauren Mayers

During my time at AUB, I have gained vital skills and knowledge in costume making and fashion history that I will carry into industry, as well as the skills I have learnt in costume supervision during my final year.

I was chosen to be the costume supervisor for AUB Productions’ Emilia! for the first term in my final year and it confirmed what I want to do after leaving university. I supervised a talented team of makers to create colourful Elizabethan costumes for a play about Shakespeare’s ‘dark lady’.

For my major project, I was fortunate to be costume supervisor once again, this time for Noel Coward’s This Happy Breed, a play set between the World Wars about a family living in London. I supervised another team of talented makers, as well as hired and sourced the remaining costumes for the total of 61 costume designs. I learnt a lot about men’s and women’s fashion during the 1920/30s and got to work with an amazing cast and production team.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at AUB, particularly in my final year in which I have been able to explore and refine my skills in costume supervision.

Plans after degree

My goal is to work backstage as a wardrobe assistant in theatre and eventually become costume supervisor. I would love to get some experience in film and TV too.
