BA (Hons) Costume

Whilst studying at AUB, I had the opportunity to research and create period and contemporary costumes. During my first two years, I was able to learn and build basic and intermediate sewing skills, from tailoring a 19th century morning jacket to experimenting with breakdown on a 1660s cut bodice.

In my third year, I was given the opportunity to specialise in costume supervision. During first term, I started as an assistant costume supervisor on AUB Productions' adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, which toured around several schools. Working on a live project for the first time was exciting and a huge learning opportunity. Whilst touring, I learnt how to pack a van, safely pack away costumes and accessories while on the move, how to create dressing rooms with a little space and privacy and how to be supportive and respectful towards actors as they go on stage.

In my final term, I became the lead costume supervisor on an original production, Still Here. For the first half of this term, I was the only student working on production from the supervision team. This was an exciting opportunity to put my skills to the test, such as time management, organisation and costume-sourcing for period and contemporary costumes. During this project, there were many costumes which meant I had to source fabric and work with the designers to make sure their vision can come to life whilst also supporting the makers throughout their process, including fittings, pre-assessment and finalising details.
