The three costumes reflect my ability by focusing on the decoration and detail. This is something I would like to do more of in the future.
The first was made for Hurn Court Opera's rendition of La Cenerentola. The dress was made for one of the ugly sisters as a regency style design, which also included the underwear accurate for the time period. The dress was bright pink, adorned with 200 handmade flowers, each individually sequinned in the centre. A bright orange giant self-standing bow was added to finish the dress.
My second piece is a 1660s bodice with lots of decoration. I hand-painted the background with ink and hand sewed swirls in gold, silver and blues to add texture. This to frame a fully hand embroidered and beaded tree. This took me around 50 hours, but I am very proud of the finished outcome.
My final piece is a French Revolution costume. The skirt is fully cartridge pleated, a skill I had never tried – it looked very professional. The bodice is front-closing and hand decorated using the language of flowers. Each hand embroidered flower has a meaning of hope, love, union and peace. The flowers also contrast to the brown background of the costume.
