BA (Hons) Costume

Jess Davies

During my time at AUB, I have been developing my historical costume making skills, focusing on womenswear. I have a passion for historical dress research, and have been able to use this to produce costumes that reflect another moment in time.

In the final term, I was honoured to be asked to make a recreation of a historic dress, made in 1810, held in the archive of Blandford Fashion Museum. The project was inspired by the life and stories told by Jane Austen, and the fashion of her era. In the Autumn term, I worked on AUB Productions' Emilia!, in which I made an Elizabethan dress and ruff for the character Mary Sidney. I was so proud of this costume and thoroughly enjoyed working alongside fellow students to costume this wonderful show and be a part of bringing such a powerful production to the stage.

Thanks to the learning throughout my Bachelor's degree at AUB, I am now progressing to a Master’s degree in Costume Design and Making at the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts. Looking ahead, I am excited to continue to pursue historical costume making professionally, creating high-quality costumes that bring characters and stories to life.
