BA (Hons) Costume

Katie Douglas

During my first two years at AUB, I refined my costume-making skills and made various historical costumes, including an 18th century peasant dress. In my third year, I specialised in costume supervision and worked on three AUB Productions shows.

For the production practice unit, I was the costume supervisor for I, Joan, which is a modern retelling of Joan of Arc’s life. I, Joan was a fully sourced show with some elements of costume breakdown. For my major project, I was the assistant supervisor for This Happy Breed, which was set in the 1920s and '30s. Seven costume makers worked on this show, but the rest of the costumes were sourced by me and Lauren Mayers, who was the costume supervisor. Each character had a different costume in each scene to show the passing of time. Also, as part of my major project, I made a costume for Still Here. I made an overdress inspired by '60s medieval fashion, as the character was from the '60s, but in a medieval play in the play.

This year I also collaborated with BA (Hons) Make-up for Media and Performance student Emily Chick and made an Elizabethan ruff for her Queen Elizabeth wig and make-up.
