BA (Hons) Costume

Verity Williams

During my time at university, I was able to develop my pattern drafting and construction skills. In my final year, I decided to develop my supervision skills, since this is the path I want to go down in the industry.

In my first term of my final year, I was the costume supervisor of the dance show called DIVA. From working on this show, my organisation skills and communication skills were improved. I gained experience working backstage on the show and was able to experience my first tech week. Working on a dance show taught me how clothing can’t restrict movements, so appropriate fabrics needed to be used.

In my last term, I supervised a project and made a garment. The project was called the Jane Austen Project, along with this I made a Spencers jacket. Some of the regency costumes were made for Blandford Museum and some for the AUB Costume Store. I really enjoyed this project since I love the regency period and by making and supervising, I was able to improve on both skills.

I had such a great time at AUB and particularly loved the projects I worked on in my final year.

Plans after degree

After I've graduated, I plan on looking for jobs in the theatre working with the running wardrobe team, or working on a film/TV set in the costume department. While working, I'll be able to gain more skills on the job.
