Support for students who are care-experienced, estranged, and young adult carers
Here at AUB, we offer support to students who are estranged or care-experienced, as well as young adult carers. For students in this position who are considering applying to AUB or want to find out more about us, we offer individual pre-application visits, providing the opportunity to see the campus and meet our staff and students.
The key contact at AUB for those who are care-experienced, estranged or a young carer is our Progression Officer Vicky-Nenya Uzzell, who can be contacted via email at vnenyauzzell@aub.ac.uk.
Bursaries
Support for students who are care-experienced
The Care Leavers bursary supports students who've been in care prior to coming to AUB.
Support for students who are estranged
The Stand Alone Bursary supports students who are estranged from both of their biological or adoptive parents.
Support for young adult carers
The Young Carers Bursary is for people aged 18-25 who care for a friend or family member who can't cope without their support.
If you have any questions about the criteria or the application process, please email AUB’s Progression Officer Vicky-Nenya Uzzell. Vicky-Nenya will be able to advise you as to how to apply for the bursary and how we assess the application. She'll also be a point of contact for you throughout your time at AUB and will meet with you at least three times during the academic year ahead of each bursary payment.
We'll also invite you to one of our Transition Days. These are informal opportunities for you to get to know the university on a campus tour and ask questions about your course or other aspects of university life.
Throughout your time at AUB you'll have the opportunity to meet with local employers and with students on other courses via the informal networking events arranged by the Progression Officer. You'll be also given the opportunity to apply to work as an Outreach Ambassador, carrying out paid work with young people from schools and colleges who are thinking about studying at university. Vicky-Nenya will also be able to refer you to the many sources of advice and support available while you’re studying at AUB and to encourage you to achieve your study goals.
