Study Abroad and Exchange
AUB offers students the opportunity to explore their creative practice while broadening their horizons.
Semester Study Abroad courses are for students and professionals who wish to spend time abroad, developing their creative skills and gaining credits towards their university degree, but do not necessarily want to spend 2-3 years in another country.
Stories help shape the world – the written word has the power to shape cultures, inspire and challenge ideas, forge identities, and celebrate creativity. Depending on the term you wish to study with us, this course will introduce you to the disciplines and skills to get you writing across different styles, forms and genres, and for a variety of audiences. Whether you want to write prose or poetry, scripts or creative non-fiction, this course provides opportunities for you to express yourself and hone your craft. Whilst developing your own portfolio of work, you could also find yourself writing in collaboration with students from other courses including writing children’s narratives with BA (Hons) Illustration, or scripts with BA (Hons) Film Production and BA (Hons) Acting. You could also be writing in different locations including London, the New Forest and the Jurassic Coast, or celebrating the local literary heritage of authors such as Mary Shelley, Jane Austen and Thomas Hardy.
You will be challenged to situate your writing within contexts relevant to your work, deepening your connection with literary and cultural theories. This course also seeks to engage you with the publishing industry with frequent visits and talks by published authors, literary agents and publishing professionals.
Portfolios are required from all prospective candidates who wish to do a Semester Study Abroad course at the Arts University. The portfolio’s purpose is to show us how you communicate and translate ideas through the written word. Your portfolio will be reviewed by the course leader and a panel who will determine the most appropriate year of study in the course for each candidate.
Other types of programmes, such as bespoke courses are also available. For more information or to apply for a course contact us on +44 1202 363824 or email studyabroad@aub.ac.uk.
