Preparation For Master's

AUB offers students the opportunity to explore their creative practice while broadening their horizons.

Join our Pre-Master's programme

Explore your creative practice and prepare for your Master’s degree.

Our Preparation for Master’s course is designed for international students and creative professionals who already have an undergraduate degree but may not have the required academic qualifications or entry requirements to progress directly onto one of AUB’s Master’s degrees.

This six-month programme gives you the opportunity to improve your English language and study skills, develop your portfolio and deepen your understanding of your creative practice to ensure you can secure entry onto an AUB Master’s degree with confidence.

The Preparation for Master's programme will help you:

  • Improve your creative skills and arts portfolio to meet the level required for postgraduate study in a subject that may be different from your undergraduate (BA) degree.
  • Develop your academic English levels in terms of writing, listening and discussing your work.
  • Fully understand the study skills required at Master’s level if you do not have the required academic experience.
  • Receive academic support from your MA course leader and Graduate School staff.
  • Improve your knowledge about British culture and the arts to appreciate the range of cultural influences.
  • Increase your confidence as a creative arts student within a specialist field.
  • Gain experience living and studying in the UK as a creative arts student.

Course information

Your MA course leader will determine your suitability for Master’s level before you are offered a place on the Preparation programme. You will then be offered a programme of learning to help you develop your skills and prepare for your future Master's application.

You will join undergraduate students on selected modules to refine your individual capabilities and receive mentoring from our academic tutors, who will provide support and guidance to help you improve sufficiently to apply to your Master's degree.

Students will be required to pass all elements of the Preparation programme to be considered for the Master's course.

Our Pre-Master’s course does not automatically guarantee your entry onto an AUB Master’s degree; you will need to ensure that you meet the minimum stated academic and English language requirements for these courses, and this will be checked at the point of application. During the course, your MA course leader will work closely with you and academic colleagues to ensure you are well supported, to meet the expected learning outcomes and develop your creative practice. Please note, this is not an accredited course and therefore may not necessarily be accepted by other institutions as a progression pathway to their own Master’s courses.

If you have any questions or would like more information about our Pre-Master’s course, please contact our International team: international@aub.ac.uk.
