Represent AUB as a Course Ambassador

Course Ambassadors play a key role in providing first-hand knowledge about life on student life at Arts University Bournemouth. You'll be instrumental in bringing to life your experiences on your course for our future students.

Becoming an Course Ambassador allows you to work as part of an enthusiastic team, learn valuable skills to add to your CV, and be able to take on paid work around your academic studies.

The role of an AUB Course Ambassador

Students on Foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes can apply to become Course Ambassadors (subject to availability on your course). Course Ambassadors play a vital role in supporting their course, working closely with various teams across the University, as well as your Course Leader.

Key to this role is being able to share your experience and passion for your course with others – this means you'll be needed to help support key university events, such as our Open Days and Offer Holder Days. In addition, you'll get to work alongside our Digital Marketing team, helping with our Student Journey projects and Unibuddy platform.

Please note, if you're already a Student Ambassador, you're also able to apply for this role. If successful, you'll hold both roles.

Course ambassador job opportunities

As a Course Ambassador, you'll have many chances to share your passion for your course with others. This may be in the form of on-campus or virtual events, off-campus events, workshops, digital projects for the website and more.

  • Open Days – The chance to work on our Open Days alongside your course team, sharing your enthusiasm and experience of your course and why you selected to study it at AUB. This is a great opportunity to inspire fellow creatives.
  • Offer Holder Days – Work closely alongside prospective students at AUB for your course of study. Help your course team to host a workshop or presentation, take students on tours of your studios or simply for a coffee and have a chat, sharing your insight into your course. These days really allow potential students to experience what it's like to be an AUB student and you'll play a key part in that.
  • Student Stories – Help our Digital Marketing team with posts for the website on our Student Stories project.
  • Unibuddy – This is a chat platform that allows potential students interested in your course to message you and get first-hand insight into your course, being an AUB student, studying in Bournemouth and more. Chatting first-hand to a current student can be a really valuable experience to those interested in learning more about AUB.

Application process

We recruit Course Ambassadors once per year in the spring. As we have a limited number of Course Ambassadors that we can employ per course, we'll review the current number employed at that time and, if your course has space available, it'll be included in the recruitment process.

Timeline

  • Early April – Applications will open. If your course is recruiting you’ll receive an email directly to your student account inviting you to apply. You’ll receive a link to apply online which consists of some basic information and a few questions so we can get to know you better! You'll also need to submit a short video giving three reasons why you like your course.
  • Mid April – Applications close.
  • End April – Shortlisting will complete and successful candidates will be informed that they've been appointed as Course Ambassadors and will await their paperwork from HR.
  • May – Online induction session – attendance to this session is compulsory.
  • Start date for first job – We aim to have the new intake of Course Ambassadors ready to work for the June/July Open Day.

When applying online, if successfully shortlisted instead of being invited to a group interview you’ll be asked to submit a selfie-style video as part of the application. The content of the video will be made clear in the application stage.

As part of becoming Course Ambassadors for AUB, there'll be several training opportunities available to you. Some will be mandatory and required as part of accepting the role; others will be optional based on your personal interests. Please note, all training will be paid.

Training

  1. Induction Session (May) – This is a compulsory online session for one hour hosted by the Digital Marketing and Events team. It'll run through the purpose of the Ambassador programme, expectations, job opportunities and job adverts, how to apply and accept jobs, and timesheets.
  2. Health and Safety training (May) – All ambassadors are required to undertake six key health and safety modules. These cover elements such are fire safety, manual handling, GDPR amongst other topics.

HR will email you onboarding documents to complete, sign and return and they'll need to complete a Right to Work in the UK check. Once finalised, you'll receive a contract with further details of your employment.

It’s important you complete the onboarding documents sent to you in a timely manner.

If you are an international Course Ambassador, please be aware that your working hours are restricted by UK Border Agency Rules. As an international student, you are not permitted to work in excess of 20 hours per week during term time.

It is your personal responsibility to ensure you adhere to this regulation and maximum set number of 20 hours whilst employed as a Student Ambassador for AUB.

You must not accept work that takes you over this limit. Therefore, it is important you keep track of your hours worked.

There is no minimum requirement of hours you need to work per week, you can apply for jobs around your timetable and study commitments. The SA scheme is designed to be flexible, to allow you to work more when you’re perhaps quieter or have finished a hand-in and less at those times when you may have lots of projects to complete.
