La Casa Nova, also known as The Superior Residence, was considered by Goldoni to be his best play. Although The Servant of Two Masters, is the best-known, it wasn't until Goldoni had failed to settle down as a lawyer and began to write scenarios for a troupe of Commedia Dell’Arte actors in Venice, that he found the means to express his genius. He was a prolific writer and with his comedies he reformed the Italian theatre.
Anzoletto has bought a new apartment. He has done this to impress his new wife, Cecilia, who has very particular and demanding tastes. He wants the best for her, which includes the design and furnishing of their new home. Unfortunately, he keeps changing his mind and money is tight. However, there are many who are willing to offer him advice: the tradesmen, the servants, the neighbours and the unexpected visitors. All of which leads to more confusion and exorbitant costs. This, together with other problems regarding relatives, workmen, bailiffs and a pair of young lovers, leads to more confusion and intrigue.
