Parents, Carers and Supporters' Guide

Parents, Carers and Supporters' Guide

Key supporters play a valuable role in the lives of our offer holders. At AUB we understand the decision to go to university is a big one, not only for the offer holder but for their parents, carers and key supporters. With this in mind, we’re here to help you support your student in the best way possible.

Supporters are very welcome as guests at our Offer Holder Day events – in fact, we encourage it! The day is designed with various elements for you to engage with and provides you with an insight into our creative culture and caring, friendly community that'll become your student’s home from home for the next few years.

The workshop sessions will be designed for the offer holder only (we’ll explain more about the reasons why below), but other aspects of the day are open for you to explore.

What is an Offer Holder Day?

Offer Holder Days at AUB are invitation-only events that take place on allocated dates throughout March and April.

Applicants who've received an offer to study at AUB will receive a personal invite via email to attend these events from January onwards.

On these dates, the offer holder and their support network are invited to attend the AUB campus and experience first-hand what it’s like to be a student at AUB.

We’re excited to welcome offer holders and their supporters to these events and have prepared a full day of activities and talks designed to make you feel at home and part of our AUB creative community.

Why attend an Offer Holder Day?

Whether or not you’ve been to an Open Day before at AUB, we highly recommend coming to one of our Offer Holder Day experiences.

The programme for the day will differ to that of an Open Day! It’s a much more enhanced and tailored experience, specific to the course of interest.

One of the most beneficial elements to the Offer Holder Day is that the offer holder will get to participate in a bespoke workshop designed by the course they've applied to. Not only will they get to meet their future tutors on the course, but they’ll also meet fellow offer holders for the course, make new friends and creative networks. This session is designed to be fun, interactive and help offer holders feel at ease in the university environment.

As we’re replicating a day of being a real-life student at AUB, we’re not able to welcome supporters to this particular element of the day, but don’t worry, we’ve got plenty else planned that you can engage with during this time.

We’re aware transitioning to university can sometimes be daunting, so the Offer Holder Days are a great opportunity to meet people in the same position and get to know them, their aspirations and what they’re looking forward to about starting university.

At the same time, we’re here to help you – the supporters – providing help in any way we can that answers any questions you may, have allowing you to fully support your student in their decision-making process and transition to university.

How is an Offer Holder Day different from an Open Day?

Ideally, you’ll get the best experience and understanding of the AUB community and environment by attending both! Open Days (for the prospective student) are earlier in the journey designed for when considering what universities to apply to. Offer Holder Days (for applicants who receive an offer) are later in the journey and give a taster into what being at student at that university can look and feel like.

Open Days are allocated dates throughout the year where the AUB is open for prospective students and their families/supporters to visit our creative campus. As part of the experience, you’ll receive general information and subject course talks designed to help inform prospective students and equip them to make decisions on where they wish to apply for university.

Offer Holder Days are invite-only events for applicants who've received an offer to study at AUB. These events offer a more bespoke experience and allow an insight into a day in the life of an AUB student. Offer Holder Days allow us to tailor the experience, as part of this we’ll be offering:

  • Specific subject workshops – Fun, interactive sessions with the course team and fellow applicants
  • Student panel talks – Hear from current AUB students, why they chose AUB and Bournemouth, what they like most, what they wish they’d known when they applied, and more!
  • Vice Chancellor and CEO welcome talk – Specifically for supporters, hear from Lisa Mann about AUB’s creative vision, plans for the future and what makes AUB special.
  • Offer holder networking lunch – A chance for offer holders to meet other offer holders from a range of courses and make friends and start creative networks.
  • Pastoral care talk – With a wealth of support services available at AUB, the Student Services team will talk through these. We believe it’s important to share all the support that’s available so that we equip supporters and students with the knowledge of how we can help during the time spent studying at AUB.
  • Library introduction – Our knowledgeable Library team are the go-to experts and here to support our students. They’ll give you a guided tour of the Library and all the resources available to support our students to be their most creative during their time at AUB.
  • Alumni and careers talk – Our support doesn’t end after graduation! Hear from our Alumni and Careers teams about how we help to improve student employment prospects and continue to support AUB graduates long after graduation has taken place!
  • Halls viewings – We’ll have showrooms available in both our on- and off-campus halls of residence for you to explore.
  • Campus tours – An opportunity to explore AUB’s campus and facilities with one of our current Student Ambassadors, able to provide some insight into their experiences of AUB.
