As part of TheGallery's exhibition The Art of Carnival Arts: Mahogany Carnival Design, we're delighted to bring you an artist talk with Clary Salandy.
As the Co-Founder, Artistic Director and Designer of Mahogany Carnival Design for over 35 years, Clary has a wealth of experience of working in Carnival and her career has taken her all over the globe for both national and international events. Currently, she's also the Industry Patron for our BA (Hons) Events Management course.
Since opening the exhibition at TheGallery, Clary has been awarded the title of Honorary Royal Designer for Industry, the highest accolade for designers, from the Royal Society of Arts (RSA), who say, “Her work emphasises community engagement and the preservation of carnival traditions, making her a pivotal figure in the UK’s cultural landscape."
Clary was one of four non-UK-based Honorary Royal Designers for Industry who were all commended for the way their work exemplifies how design transcends borders, enriching communities worldwide.
Tickets to the talk are free. Following this, there'll be a drinks reception in TheGallery from 18.00–19.00. The drinks reception is an open event and no RSVP is required.
The Art of Carnival Arts: Mahogany Carnival Design is available to view until 23 January.
