PGCert Creative Teaching and Learning Design (Online) course information

During PGCert Creative Teaching and Learning Design, you'll acquire the core knowledge and skills required to design engaging learning experiences in higher education. This 60-credit course is delivered part-time over 30 weeks, allowing you to balance study with professional commitments.

You'll investigate the importance of inclusivity, accessibility, and digital technologies in learning design, while reflecting critically on the relationship between learning design, assessment, feedback, and quality assurance. The course emphasises practical application, enabling you to develop a portfolio of work directly relevant to higher education contexts.

By the end of the course, you'll be equipped to design creative, inclusive, and effective learning experiences for university students, positioning yourself for roles in learning design and educational technology within higher education institutions.

PGCert Creative Teaching and Learning Design is rooted in the belief that effective learning design in higher education should seamlessly blend innovation and impact. We foster the development of empathy, self-awareness, and technical skills to create engaging, inclusive, and transformative learning experiences.

Our approach encourages critical reflection on your beliefs about learning in higher education, promoting a deeper understanding of pedagogy. By applying creative arts principles to learning design, we inspire innovative teaching methods that resonate with diverse student populations.

Inclusivity and accessibility are central to our philosophy, ensuring that your designs cater to varied student needs. We explore the integration of digital technologies to enhance university learning experiences, always connecting theory with practice.

Recognising higher education's collaborative nature, we nurture a community where idea-sharing thrives. This foundation prepares you for the evolving landscape of university teaching, equipping you to create learning experiences that are both academically rigorous and student-centred.

PGCert Creative Teaching and Learning Design comprises two core units:

Learning Design Bootcamp (20 credits)

This unit introduces six fundamental pillars of effective learning: empathy, curriculum, inclusivity, facilitation, technology, and community. You'll explore how each pillar underpins engaging learning experiences, and will develop practical skills that you can apply immediately.

Creative Teaching and Learning Design (40 credits)

This unit deepens your knowledge of pedagogy and learning design skills, and how to apply them in higher education. You'll examine foundational and contemporary theories, develop critical reflection skills, and explore the use of digital technologies and AI to develop inclusive and engaging learning experiences. The unit equips you with professional skills to navigate the relationship between learning design, creative teaching, assessment, feedback, and quality assurance in higher education.

Throughout both units, you'll engage in practical projects, critical reflection, and group presentations. These activities culminate in assessments that challenge you to demonstrate your ability to design creative learning experiences for higher education contexts.

By the end of the course, you'll have developed a robust portfolio of work directly relevant to university settings.
