This 20-week course gives you the opportunity to develop a sound understanding of desktop publishing and unleash your inner design potential.

It’s not possible to enrol on this course part-way through. You’ll need to attend from the start date in February
You’ll be expected to complete projects, exercises, and research outside of your sessions at AUB. You’ll be provided with more details about timelines and project submission deadlines at the start of the course.

Suitable for adults aged 18+.
Level
Beginners or anyone with some experience who want to refresh or develop their skills further.
Experience or qualifications required
None – this is an introductory course. We have no formal academic entry requirements for our short courses. However, it will be beneficial if you’ve already completed one of our short courses or possess some art experience.

Deposit
You can choose to secure your place with a deposit of £400 and pay the remainder of your fees in one further instalment of £439. Simply, choose this option when booking your place online. The total balance of your course fee is payable by 1 October 2024. See our T&Cs (below) for further details.

About this course
This 20-week Skills Education Group (SEG) Level 1 accredited qualification will encourage you to develop your design skills in relation to desktop publishing and become a dynamic visual communicator.
Having a Level 1 qualification will prepare you for further learning, give you the skills to progress in your current job, or equip you with new skills needed to change your career path.
Your tutor, Eleni Dimitriou, will expertly guide you to explore the world of desktop publishing, where you’ll be introduced to core design skills by working across a series of exciting projects.
As you progress through the course, you’ll develop your artistic and design abilities, learnspecialist techniques, and unearth your creative flair. Along the way you’ll build a personal portfolio to showcase your newfound technical skills that reflect and demonstrate your creative potential.
Throughout the course you’ll undertake a series of projects using a range of different resources and computer applications, including Adobe InDesign. You’ll have numerous opportunities to experiment with a range of different creative styles and techniques and design elements such as identity, digital and print media for advertising, commercial, and branding.

At the end of the course you'll:

- Be able to work to a set brief and develop suitable ideas and bodies of work in responsewithin desktop publishing
- Possess an enhanced ability to visually communicate your ideas and develop your visual voice
- Have increased confidence in your own skills and feel inspired

- Possess the foundations to continue creating beyond this course

Will I be assessed?
Yes, if you complete this 20-week programme and meet the necessary ongoing assessment criteria set by Skills Education Group (SEG) you’ll be awarded an accredited Level 1 Skills Education Group certificate.
The final assessment of work submitted for moderation will be graded by SEG as either pass or fail. Assessment can include practical tasks, assignments, presentations, and portfolio reviews. In the Saturday sessions you’ll meet individually with your tutor to discuss your progress.

Eleni Dimitriou is a Graphic Designer based in Bournemouth. She has studied Graphic Arts at UWCN and she has a MA in Interactive Media.
