I found myself most interested in historical costume, so much so that I entered the Patterns of Fashion Award with a hand-stitched 1770s sackback gown, better known as a Robe à la Française, with a matching petticoat and a small pair of pocket hoops to accompany the costume.
Another interest of mine has always been Regency-wear and I was privileged enough to be able to make an 1810 Regency costume while at university. This costume consisted of a dusty rose empire waistline gown with a white-boned under-slip for structure. It is finished with a brown, two-layered half cape that falls just underneath the hip.
A favoured costume from my time at AUB was from my second year, where I collaborated with a fellow student to create a sea sprite costume for a production at Lighthouse, Poole. I specifically loved working with all the textile techniques such as fabric slashing, embroidery, puff binder and crochet to make this cape look as if it has been pulled from the ocean. I plan to take the knowledge I have learnt of historical recreation and embroidery and develop it further outside university and in further careers.
