Caólum McCabe, a self-employed creative director from Northern Ireland, has been named as one of the 50 People to Watch in 2026 by The Irish Times.
Graduating from Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) in 2020 with a degree in BA (Hons) Fashion Design: Womenswear, Caólum was celebrated by the Irish Times for his 16-piece debut collection Persona.
Inspired by Ingmar Bergman’s 1966 film of the same name, the 27-year-old’s collection of innovative silhouettes, wayward silk knitwear, oil-slicked pieces, pearlised button tweed décor and hand-dyed slip dresses was described as a "tour de force from a talented creative."
“I’m delighted to see that my work is being recognised on a larger scale," Caólum comments. "It’s a tough road to try and navigate, bringing to fruition a brand that I’ve had long in my head. Milestones like this serve as a reminder of the progress I am making.”
His love of fashion was inherited from his grandmother, who was a dressmaker, and his tutors at AUB who worked with McQueen and Galliano.
After graduation, Caólum spent time with Vivienne Westwood and designer SS Daley (recipient of the LVMH prize) in London, before returning home to reconnect with his heritage.
A job in a local hospital helped him pay for fabrics for his self-funded show. He describes himself as an emotional and conceptual designer, who wants to put more magic into fashion.
On what’s next, Caólum shares, “I’m launching a made to order service as my primary point of sales in March, and hopefully a second collection in October of 2026.”
