Course: BA (Hons) Photography

Graduated: 2017

London-based artist and curator Ibrahim Azab shifts between sculpture, performance and photography. Ideas of process, perception, and information form the centre of Azab’s practice, whilst surrounding research of his work investigates the relationship between the subconscious and reality, material and immaterial within hyper-consumer and visual culture. His work explores the photograph as object, through digital and physical intervention, with a focus towards the movement and transfer of information. Significantly, Azab’s work is concerned with failure and representation within the photographic medium, playfully surfacing the act of seeing and unseeing through phenomenological understanding of the surface.

Since graduating from AUB, Azab has exhibited as part of a number of group exhibitions and galleries across London and the UK such as The Royal Academy of Arts, Studio/Chapple, Seen Fifteen Gallery, HOME, Have a Butchers, South Kiosk, Sid Motion, and Elephant West. He has also worked as a curator’s assistant with Peckham 24 from 2018 to the present day, whilst also having curated with The Photographers’ Gallery as part of their Develop programme for young photographers and artists, Revolv Collective (2018–2021), FORMAT (Derby), X FOTEA (East Africa, 2022), Photo London (2018) and Unseen Photo Fair (Amsterdam, 2020).

Azab’s work has also been featured as part of Tique Art Six Questions (2022), It’s Nice That (2021), Photoworks (2020), FT How to spend it (2020), Art Licks Magazine (2020) and Wallpaper* Magazine (2019, 2021).

Most recently, Azab has started tutoring as visiting lecturer at University of Arts London (London College of Communication) on their BA and MA Photography courses (2022–23), having also published his first book EV3RY(TH1NG’5)MOV1NG: BUT_I’M(STILL)H3RE with FOLIUM Publishing (2023).
