Nick Denisov, who studied the Film & Animation Foundation pathway at AUB, exhibited his music video Deep Water at the annual three-day exhibition, which celebrates the work and achievements of students completing UAL Awarding Body qualifications.

The festival is open to students across Levels 1-4, with the work on display ranging from drawing, sculpture, video and fashion. This year’s exhibition received over 350 submissions, with UAL curators deciding which works made it in to the final exhibition.

Speaking of his work, Nick said: “I am exhibiting a music video, Deep Water, that I’ve directed and written a script for. This music video started as my final project in a Foundation year at AUB.

“It slowly evolved into something a lot bigger. This happened mainly because I was lucky to collaborate with a Swedish musician based in London, Malin Andersson, and also that I got a chance to work with some of the best film students at the university. Overall, we had 23 people from Foundation and BA courses involved in this project. “

The music video itself, is a story about an old man who comes to his old house to recall his memories and remember some of the happiest moments of his childhood life.

“I strongly believe that memories are the key to our present; they influence our choices and form our personalities. It is important for a person to remain friends with the past and learn from it or get some relief. It’s impossible to relive the past life once again, but it is possible to keep it in your memory.

The opportunity for Nick to exhibit his work at UAL Origins Festival came after Head of Foundation Tim Edgar and Film & Animation Pathway Leader Mark Triller, submitted his end of year foundation work for consideration.

Nick said: “There is nothing unique or new in what I will say about what it means to me to be included in the exhibition. I think for all or at least for the most creator’s audience means a lot.

“We live and create for someone to see and review our work. The more chances I get to feature my work the more feedback I have and I have more chances to reach out to people and say with the help of filmmaking what is meaningful to me.”

Speaking of his time on the course and at AUB Nick said: “My time at AUB was amazing. For me one of the most important parts of education is people, both students and tutors. Tutors were very nice, as for the students I think that the fact that 23 students helped and worked with me on this project is the best example of how easy it is to collaborate at AUB.

“We are individuals but we strongly depend on the society that we live in, especially on the people around us. Hence, AUB is a great place to study because you are surrounded by creative people that are willing to help. My plan now is to move on to BA Film Production at AUB.”

During his time at AUB Nick has taken up the post of Country Ambassador for Russia, a role that sees him working at international events and ensuring that students from their home country feel at home during their time at AUB. As Country Ambassador for Russia Nick is also a point of contact for prospective students looking to find out about life in Bournemouth and all things AUB.
