Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop are powerful post-production tools used by photographers and editors to elevate images. On this 10-week course, you’ll master using them.

None – this is an introductory course. We have no formal academic entry requirements for our short courses.

  • Notebook and pens/pencils to take notes.
  • USB memory device.
  • A personal collection of images in RAW and JPEG formats.

As part of your studies you may be using licensed software, such as Adobe Light Room, during classroom sessions. Please be aware that access to this software is only available whilst on campus in sessions or in the AUB Library. To benefit most from your course, we advise you to arrange private access to software; however, AUB is unable to provide software for personal use. If you prefer to use your own laptop, please ensure you have personal access to Adobe Lightroom Classic and Photoshop programmes.

About this course

This course has been created specifically for photographers with little or no post-production knowledge or experience. Combining both Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop programs you'll explore the most efficient and effective methods to maximise digital workflow solutions and explore the many creative possibilities for attaining image perfection.

Using Mac computers or your own laptop (you must have access to Adobe Lightroom Classic and Photoshop programmes), you'll be guided through the process of how to manage your digital workflow and output high-quality images through Adobe Lightroom Classic and Adobe Photoshop for web and print outputs.

You'll learn and explore the most commonly used commands and techniques to improve your workflow and examine the myriads of creative possibilities available to give your images maximum impact.

Starting with RAW files you'll be shown how to process and then prepare your images for various web and digital outputs, including high-resolution print output. This will lead to discussions about print and where your images maybe placed after the digital process has concluded.

You'll move between Adobe Lightroom Classic and Adobe Photoshop programmes understanding, viewing, and appreciating where the programmes complement each other, and where each individual programme excels. You'll be shown how to automate processes, combine exposures and create composites, work with layers and make calculated adjustments to enhance your photographs. You'll also be shown how to create composites as well as portrait retouching-enhancement techniques.

Nearing the end of your course, you'll have the opportunity to have several of your best creative images printed using AUB’s high-end, industry-level inkjet printing resources.

  • Constructing and uploading sophisticated web galleries
  • Manipulation techniques
  • Adjusting layer styles and effects
  • Retouching
  • File sizing
  • Explanation of DPI and PPI terms and applications
  • Photo-printer properties, print resolutions, colour space, and printing profiles
  • Photo-printer inks, inkjet papers and paper profiles

At the end of the course you'll:

  • Possess a comprehensive overview and understanding with hands-on experience working with Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop.
  • Develop a better understanding of the key features of digital workflow and increase creative potential in post-production.
  • Gain confidence in applying post-production techniques and utilise common actions to speed up the post-production process.
  • Gain comprehensive keys skills required to prepare images for web, various digital outputs, and for photo-printing purposes.
  • Possess improved artistic skills.
  • Have increased confidence in your own skills and feel inspired.
  • Have boosted creativity and imagination.
  • Possess the foundations to continue creating beyond this course.
