As a Costume Maker and Costume Supervisor, my work is centred on transforming costume designs into reality, whether through hands-on construction or by leading and managing costume teams to realise a designer’s creative vision.
For my Personal Major Project, I recreated an 18th century gown inspired by Portrait of Marie Antoinette, Queen of France (1788) by Élisabeth Louise Vigée Le Brun. Although based on a historical garment, the costume was designed specifically for screen and digital media, requiring a considered reinterpretation and contemporary construction approach. The finished costume incorporated both visible and structural elements, including a bum roll, crinoline frills, petticoat, bodice, skirt, overskirt with train, fichu and hat.
During the first part of my final year, I had the opportunity to serve as Costume Supervisor for Orpheus and Eurydice, a contemporary stage adaptation of the classic Greek myth. All costumes were sourced, adapted and altered within a four-week production schedule. Inspired by 1990s fashion, this was the first production of the academic year and required efficient planning, organisation and execution to meet tight deadlines.
For my Collaborative Major Project, I worked as Head Costume Supervisor on Grimm Tales. This ambitious project represented six months of work and involved the sourcing, construction and alteration of 60 costumes comprising more than 230 individual costume items. Leading a costume team of nearly 40 people, I coordinated workflows and oversaw all aspects of costume production to successfully bring the director’s and designers’ vision to life.
Plans after degree
After completing my degree, I plan to continue developing my career within the costume industry. My immediate goal is to work in theatre, where I can further expand my experience in costume making, supervision and production management. In the long term, I aspire to transition into the film and television industry, applying the skills I have developed in both historical and contemporary costume production for screen-based projects.
I am passionate about bringing creative visions to life through costume and look forward to contributing to a wide range of productions while continuing to grow as both a maker and a supervisor.
