A key moment of my university experiences was being selected as the set designer for the Spring AUB Productions performance of The Visit. This was an incredible opportunity to work in a vast collaboration with several courses and individuals to see my design brought to life, which took inspiration from the Bauhaus, Brutalism and Surrealism art movements. The 1920s became a core inspiration, particularly the woodcut works of Jacob Pins and the film Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920).

The play by Friedrich Dürrenmatt (1956) tells of a forgotten town of Guillen that has fallen into despair and poverty. I wanted to play with creating a liminal and distorted memory of a town. To create this distortion I inverted shadows, exaggerated lines and angles. The shadows created by the buildings, lighting and actors all aid in the idea that the play is reminiscent of a creepy puppet show in which Ill, the protagonist, plays the puppet.
