For my Final Major Project, I chose to take part in two AUB Productions, the first of which was Jekyll and Hyde. This show was my first choice because of my interest in the late-Victorian period and my desire to further develop my tailoring skills. Through working on the production, I had the opportunity to collaborate with designers, supervisors and actors. As a maker, I was assigned a costume design, researched my costume, drafted patterns, constructed the garments and attended fittings. Seeing the show come together and watching it at Palace Court Theatre was very exciting.

I made a Victorian menswear ensemble consisting of a frock coat, waistcoat and trousers for a member of the all-female cast. The frock coat was my favourite piece from this show. During this project, I was able to build on and expand my tailoring skills, as well as learn how to begin with traditional menswear tailoring and adapt it to the female form. I particularly enjoyed working with the fabrics assigned to me by the costume supervisors.

For my Final Major Project, I also worked as a maker on the AUB production of Grimm Tales, for which I created additional contemporary sculptural pieces. I found this especially exciting, as I had previously worked almost exclusively on historical pieces, and it was rewarding to try something new.

Plans after degree

I hope to gain more work experience within the industry. I want to continue building my portfolio, with the ultimate goal of working in the TV and film industry.
