For this project, I aimed to create a video game trailer utilising Blender’s 3D software and my distinctive blend of 2D and 3D styles, drawing inspiration from stop-motion animation and rich, tactile textures. The trailer explores the complex themes of death and the journey through purgatory to reach the afterlife.
On a personal level, it serves as a piece of self-expression – my way of processing death and reimagining it as a less intimidating concept, more like a strange, fun, and slightly scary adventure, much like a video game.
To achieve a handcrafted look, I used clay textures on my models to replicate the feel of stop-motion animation and animated my characters to move in that same style. I created custom textures in Procreate and applied them in Blender to enhance the handmade aesthetic. I also included 2D animations, as I enjoy merging all of my visual styles into a single piece. To make the trailer feel like a playable game, I added elements such as loading screens, start menus, and player choices, giving viewers the sense that they’re not just watching a trailer, but experiencing part of a game.
