The Creative Print Collab, a collaboration between industry-leading organisations and Arts University Bournemouth (AUB), has announced the winners of its popular programme at a ceremonial event on AUB Campus.

The Creative Print Collab is a partnership between cosmetics retailer LUSH, Dayfold printing services, and Foilco, suppliers of stamping foil shades and finishes. While not part of The Creative Print Collab, paper specialists GF Smith also took part in the project.

First-year students on AUB’s BA (Hons) Graphic Design course had to select one of five wellbeing-themed briefs and were tasked with producing an aesthetically beautiful, creatively printed and packaged final product in just eight weeks. The kit needed to include three LUSH products along with a deck of 50 cards, three greaseproof sheets, a poster zine, and the box itself, all designed by the students.

The students had five briefs to choose from including Chill Pill, a toolkit that helps unwind a busy mind in the bathroom; Diplomacy Dip, a toolkit that helps deescalate a conflict in the bathroom; and Shower Stretches, a toolkit for muscle relaxation and stretches in the bathroom.

The 10-week project started with a tour of LUSH and Dayfold followed by a Foilco and G . F Smith digital foiling workshop, as well as studio time spent researching personas and research mapping, looking at trends, learning about time management, and public speaking.

Ruby Melmoth-Bennett claimed first prize, with Mimi Smith and Alicia Tandy placing second and third respectively. The top three claimed impressive prizes including internships at LUSH and Dayfold, with runners-up claiming LUSH gift boxes and Foilco portable swatches and GF Smith swatches.

“This is such an exciting opportunity for a first year Graphics student," comments Marten Sims, Senior Lecturer for AUB’s BA (Hons) Graphic Design course and unit lead on the project. "To work with such incredible brands and get those precious insights into their businesses, these are the experiences that really add value for our students.

“Everyone involved was incredibly impressed with the outstanding quality of work from these students who are only six months into their course, what they’ve delivered is exceptional. We’re delighted with the feedback from our partners in The Creative Print Collab, we know how important it is for them to connect with the next generation of designers and makers.”
