Working as a creative within the luxury product industry and as a lecturer on the Foundation Diploma at AUB, Karen wanted the opportunity to experiment and explore ideas in a freer, more conceptual way.

Attending the two-year, part-time MA Fine Art course pushed her to think outside her comfort zone by working in with a different approach, providing her time to explore and experiment with a range of materials and methodologies.

Since completing the MA in 2020, the dialogue Karen started with her practice during that time has continued, expressing itself in a diverse range of ways:

  • Expanding her teaching practice, allowing her to discuss a wider range of contextual and theoretical knowledge with students.
  • Re-framing commercial design practice and being inspired to work in more experimental ways, reigniting her passion for fine jewellery and objet d’art.
  • Further exploration of materials, with her ongoing ceramic work developing sculpturally and her drawing feeding into surface decoration.
  • Continuing her personal practice with drawing and a growing research interest in psychogeography and mapping.

Karen's experience on MA Fine Art and its professional practice continues to give her the confidence to exhibit her drawings and ceramics to a wider audience, applying for group shows and competitions.
