BA (Hons) Fine Art graduate Millie Lake has organised and curated Unseen, an exciting new exhibition hosted by The Old School House (TOSH) in Boscombe.

In collaboration with Open School Creative (TOSH and BEAF Arts Co's artist development programme), Unseen is the first show in TOSH’s new exhibition programme and will be open to the public until 12 December.

The open call exhibition proved to be extremely popular with local artists, with the final exhibition featuring 37 out of 115 submissions – including MA Painting alumna Ella Shepard, who graduated in 2023.

Millie explains, “There’s a powerful and compelling collection of work, all from local artists which include paintings and prints, mixed media, ceramics, and more.”

Artists were invited to respond to the theme ‘Unseen’, based on TOSH’s ongoing commitment to platforming outsider art and overlooked voices. The exhibited artworks explore personal experiences of feeling unseen, while some visualise the stories of others – those whose lives, contributions or identities are often ignored – highlighting the things that quietly slip under the radar of everyday life. Many of these pieces have never been shown or shared, until now.

“We’re excited for people to see the exhibition for the first time at the opening night on Thursday 30 October, 17.30–20.00!" adds Millie.

“On Saturday 1 November we have the TOSH Open Day for people that want a quieter viewing of the artwork, where there’ll also be a free creative writing drop-in led by The Outsiders Project and a community music group performance facilitated by Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.”

The free-to-attend Open House celebration and Unseen exhibition is on Saturday 1 November, 10.00–16.00.
