Ethan Horne, a final-year BA (Hons) Creative Writing student at Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) is set to release his debut album Face Value later this summer.

As a lead-up to the album’s release, Ethan, known as Spectator, has unveiled two singles, also to be included in Face Value.

The tracks, Thaw (featuring a collaboration with MossTrust) and Chained to my Past, offer “a candid look into heartbreak, healing, and the painful process of letting go.”

“These lyrics encapsulated my feelings fresh from a breakup,” Ethan explains. “The anxiety and lovesickness experienced, and the lost mindset of where to go from here.”

The singles blend pop melody with rock intensity – setting the tone for an album that promises both emotional vulnerability and musical depth.

“I came into Creative Writing with a passion for lyricism and poetry,” says Ethan. “The modules on poetry have certainly helped my lyrics evolve and take a more metaphorical and symbolic turn – I truly believe my style was born through my years in Bournemouth.”

Face Value is the result of a collaboration with MossTrust and TobySmithMusicProductions, and Ethan says the BA (Hons) Creative Writing course helped him “get a foot in the door through connections into the industry and potential collaborative partners across AUB and [Bournemouth University].”

“My advice to people studying at AUB would be don't limit your imagination,” Ethan says. “Bring your ideas to life first, worry about the technicalities later.

“My brand, Spectator, was born through the notion of spectating other people's success, without putting in the work to bring your efforts to fruition – that being said, don't underestimate the power of inspiration.”
