The 2019 AUB Human symposium, WHO AM I? Identity in the Age of the Anthropocene challenges us to consider the impact of human-influence on the environment and the potential crisis that our world now faces.
It is our obligation to face up to the impact that our industries have on the planet and to consider how we might mitigate, reduce, or eradicate these negative effects. We need to consider what part we wish to play as individuals, students, academics, creatives, businesses and researchers in challenging current practice and addressing the need for circular approaches to economic development.
Confirmed speakers include: Simon Widmer from the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, Dorothy Mackenzie, Chair, Dragon Rouge, Chrissy Levett, Founder of Creative Conscience, Dr Paul Micklethwaite, PhD, SFHEA, FRSA, Senior Research Fellow, Kingston University, Jo Goddard, Founder of Ruby Moon and Paul Willoughby, Executive Creative Director at Human After All.
The annual event challenges people to consider the impact of human influence on the environment and the potential crisis that the world now faces, and took place over February and March.
As part of this, Arts University Bournemouth played host to the two-day AUB Human Symposium, titled WHO AM I? Identity in the Age of the Anthropocene, which saw award-winning speakers, creative practitioners, industry professionals and academics come together to deliver guest lectures on a host of subjects.
Day one saw guest lectures from Simon Widmer of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, Chrissy Levett from Creative Conscience, as well as AUB students who showcased their ventures from clothes swapping app to a video campaign raising awareness of domestic abuse towards women and children.
Day two was kicked off by Senior Campus Services Officer, James Jackson who spoke about what AUB is doing on campus to ensure it’s a frontrunner in environmental management, with other lectures throughout the day being delivered by BA (Hons) Fashion Senior Lecturer, Karen Ryan, AUBSU Vice President, Chloe Harty and a keynote speech from Jo Godden from Ruby Moon.
The symposium also played host to Paul Willoughby, Creative Director of Weapons of Reason, a publishing project by Human After All to understand and articulate the global challenges shaping our world. Weapons of Reason runs until 18 April 2019 in the Live Projects space of The Gallery to accompany the 2019 events.

AUB Human is also presented Weapons of Reason during 28 February – 18 April 2019 in the Live Projects space of The Gallery to accompany the 2019 events.
Weapons of Reason is a publishing project by Human After All to understand and articulate the global challenges shaping our world. Paul Willoughby, creative director of Weapons of Reason, will be speaking at the AUB Human symposium WHO AM I? Identity in the Age of the Anthropocene on March 5th in the South House Lecture Theatre SH001.
