Unleash your imagination, discover new skills, and create art that inspires.  Explore your creative potential with a specially designed 2-week Summer Residential Course for students aged 13–14 years at Arts University Bournemouth (AUB). 

Join us in August for an inspiring and immersive 2-week summer residential experience at AUB, one of the UK’s top creative arts universities. 

During this course students will take part in pre-application reviews where they will receive feedback on their portfolios and could even be offered a place at AUB!

What you need to know

Teaching

Monday 3 August – Friday 14 August 2026 (including Saturday)

  • Weekdays (Monday – Friday), 09.00-17.00
  • Saturday 8 August, 10.00-16.00

Accommodation

Sunday 2 August, from 14.00 – Saturday 15 August, up till 10.00

Age

All students must be aged between 13–14 years at the time of attending the course.

Experience or qualifications required 

There are no formal academic entry requirements or qualifications needed to study this course. We only ask that you come with a passion for the creative printmaking and plenty of enthusiasm!

English language 

This course will be taught in English. We don't require you hold an English language qualification; however, we recommend you have an intermediate level of English to benefit fully from your experience and be able to communicate with your tutors and fellow students.

Specially designed and developed for adventurous and passionate 13–14 year-olds from around the world, this exciting summer course offers a unique opportunity to expand your creative horizons, explore a wide array of creative disciplines, develop new skills, and express your personal identity through art.  Students will gain confidence, expand their horizons, and have an unforgettable summer experience.

At the Summer Arts Academy, you'll take part in hands-on workshops across a range of art forms including painting, sculpture, digital media, photography, and more. Testing different techniques, styles, and mediums, you'll discover your unique artistic voice, exploring your creativity and personal identity through collaborative projects and individual studies.  

Your summer programme will also include specially selected excursions, evening activities, and cultural visits to enrich your understanding of the wider art world and allow you to experience life as a university student.  You'll be supported and supervised by dedicated, trained staff in a safe, inclusive environment both in and out of the classroom 24/7.  You'll work in groups, with personalised guidance from your tutor; present and discuss personal projects with the course community, and develop a portfolio of work.

This course aims to:

  • Enhance foundational art skills, including drawing, painting, and mixed-media techniques, enabling the production of diverse and expressive artworks 
  • Allow you to explore various artistic mediums and practices, fostering experimentation and encouraging innovative approaches to your creative projects 
  • Develop your ability to confidently generate original ideas, conceptualise themes, and translate concepts into visual narratives through your artwork 
  • Acquire practical knowledge of contemporary art tools and software (if applicable), that improves your technical confidence and versatility 
  • Learn to critically evaluate your own work and that of your peers, providing constructive feedback and embracing a growth-oriented mindset 
  • Encourage you to find and refine your individual artistic voice, where you will gain confidence in expressing your unique perspectives and stories through creative art 
  • Develop your ability to present your work effectively, including creating portfolios and participating in exhibitions or showcase events 
  • Gain awareness of contemporary art practices, influential artists, and cultural contexts, enriching your appreciation and contextual understanding of art

Will I be assessed?

You'll be continually assessed in a variety of ways including practical tasks, observations, assignments, presentations, and portfolio work.

Work produced during the course will be collated into a portfolio and/or digital journal for students to add to their portfolio or for future development.

Your course tutor will offer guidance and support you with your creative applications, as well as feedback on your work and offer advice for your future creative studies.

All students with 100% course attendance will be issued with an official AUB Summer Course Certificate detailing course contents and study hours.
