Overview

Carefully designed for students aged 13–16, this architecture course invites young creatives to unleash their curiosity and imagination in an engaging and accessible introduction to the world of design and the built environment.

Across eight inspiring Saturday mornings, students explore the fundamental principles of architecture, from initial concept sketches to the creation of simple scale models gaining insight into how architects think, design, and bring ideas to life. Through hands-on experimentation, they develop their own understanding of space, form, and structure.

Course information

Throughout the course, students will be introduced to the core principles behind iconic landmarks and architectural styles from around the world, encouraging them to consider how buildings serve communities and respond to their surroundings.

Working with a variety of materials, from professional drawing tools to modelmaking supplies, they'll transform imaginative concepts into tangible designs, building confidence in visualising and communicating their ideas. Whether envisioning a future city skyline or designing a dream home, students refine their skills in sketching, model construction, and freehand drawing under the guidance of experienced tutors.

This supportive and collaborative environment fosters creativity, teamwork and presentation skills, empowering students to discover their unique design voice. Whether aspiring to a future career in architecture or simply passionate about creative design, participants gain a rewarding and enriching introduction to architectural practice.

By the end of the course, students will have produced a portfolio of drawings and models, alongside a deeper appreciation of how architects shape ideas into inspiring spaces. This course offers an exciting opportunity to explore architecture and build a strong foundation for future creative pursuits.

At the end of the course, your young artist will:

  • Develop core skills in sketching, modelmaking and visualising architecture.
  • Gain confidence in translating ideas into drawings and physical models.
  • Understand how buildings relate to their surrounding environment and community.
  • Build a portfolio of architectural drawings and models created during the course.
  • Present and explain design concepts clearly and confidently.
  • Receive feedback through informal reviews, peer discussions and a final presentation to refine skills and ideas.

Students can request a digital Certificate of Attendance if 100% attendance has been achieved by the end of the course. To request a certificate, please email academy@aub.ac.uk with student name and course completed.

As an introductory course, no previous understanding or experience is required. This course is designed to be open to anyone curious, playful and eager to learn more about architecture, building, and spatial design.

  • Everything your young artist will need to take part in the course will be provided by us – no hidden costs!

  • Drinks and snacks for break time and duration of class; please ensure snacks don’t contain nuts.
  • It’s strongly advised mobile phones, tablets and other valuables aren’t brought to class. Any personal possessions are the responsibility of your young artist and AUB won’t be liable for any loss or damage.
