Course information

Whether you’re an aspiring content creator, influencer, or someone looking to use video as part of a marketing or brand strategy, this course will give you the skills, knowledge and confidence to plan, shoot and develop effective video content.

You’ll explore the creative and technical foundations of video content creation, learning how to translate ideas into compelling on-camera content. From understanding what makes a successful YouTube video to learning how to frame, light and shoot professional-looking footage, this course focuses on practical skills that can be applied immediately.

Through a series of tutor-led demonstrations, discussions and hands-on workshops, you’ll learn how to develop content ideas, plan shoots, work confidently on camera and create videos that connect with an audience. You’ll also explore the differences between creating content for personal channels, influencers and brands, and how purpose, tone and audience shape creative decisions.

This course places a strong emphasis on shooting techniques for video content, helping you understand how to use cameras, smartphones and basic equipment effectively. You’ll gain insight into composition, lighting, sound and movement, and how these elements impact the quality and engagement of your videos.

By the end of the course, you’ll have a clearer understanding of how to create authentic, engaging video content for YouTube and digital platforms, and the confidence to continue developing your own content or apply your skills in a marketing or creative context.

Will I be assessed?

No, there's no formal assessment. As the course progresses your tutor will measure your overall performance and offer essential guidance and feedback, so you know how you're getting on.

None – this is an introductory course. We have no formal academic entry requirements for our short courses.
