Hello, my name is Sofia and I am graduating from BA (Hons) Makeup, Hair and Prosthetics this summer. Throughout my degree, I have developed a diverse range of practical and creative skills across special effects, prosthetics, wig-making, beauty, film and stage makeup. My portfolio showcases projects that challenged both my technical ability and my artistic creativity through makeup and design, and allowed me to explore storytelling through different forms.

The work below includes a wounded soldier with prosthetic chemical burns from a gas attack, a realistic casualty simulation and a zombie character with sculpted rotting flesh, demonstrating my knowledge and skills of special effects makeup, application and realism. The work also includes natural beauty makeup, designed to enhance and celebrate the model’s individual features, as well as film makeup on an actress that required deeper understanding of mature women’s skin in Crocodile Tears as well as taking care of men’s hair and makeup for the opera La Traviata.

In addition, I created and designed a traditional Ukrainian character and wig entirely hand-knotted, paired with bondo scarring and traditional hair styling. This project pushed me further for my technical skills and developed my love for wigs and wig making.

I am passionate about creating makeup that enhances performance, tells a story and brings characters to life. I look forward to continuing to develop my skills and build a career within the makeup industry.

After I finish my degree I plan to apply for trainee positions within theatre and film, building on the skills I already have as well as continuing to learn as much as I can.
