Form and Foliage

My graduate project, Form and Foliage, is a bold and exciting print and hard surface collection expressing the beauty that comes from harsh, brutalist architecture when combined with an abundance of plants and foliage.

Intended for interiors of a conceptual communal office, lobby area and outdoor terrace space, this collection takes form in a range of wallpapers, tiles, wood panels and printed fabrics adorned with illustrative yet graphic print and embroidery work. Fuelled by interest of the impact of biophilic design on wellbeing, this collection aims to bring this same positive impact when brought into interiors as well as practising sustainability where possible in my design process. It combines sharp geometric shapes with flowing verdure and detailed illustrations to bring in more colour, pattern and interest to the often dull and uninspiring spaces. The project aims to show innovation in use of colour and interesting finishes suitable for interior application, as well as showing craftsmanship and a high-quality finish. This is reached through trials of screenprinting with different pigments and processes, laser cutting and etching, UV printed tiles and surfaces, digital print and Irish embroidery.

The project was a joy to make at AUB with great support form tutors, course mates and other AUB staff.

Plans after degree

I wish to work in a print design role for an interiors company, making wallpaper, fabric and other surface print designs.
