The three-year journey to completing my degree has been amazing. While tough at times, I have grown so much as a costume maker. I have specialised and found my love in tailoring and adored getting to work in the most amazing teams in the costume workrooms and backstage in theatre.
Over the past academic year, I have had the pleasure of working on a range of internal and external projects. At the start of the academic year I worked on a female tailcoat for Hurt Court Opera’s La Traviata. The project solidified my love for tailoring and was also a beautiful way to add some of my own queer experience into a costume.
I also made costumes for two of AUB's theatre production summer shows, Moonfleet and Grimm Tales. These two shows really pushed me to think creatively about my construction techniques and were a brilliant way to end my university experience. In my time here, I have also been able to indulge in my own interests, learning how to make a ruff, getting to work in film and being a dresser in AUB's productions of Orpheus and Eurydice and Moonfleet.
Plans after degree
While I have no concrete plans after finishing my degree, I cannot wait to take the skills I have learnt a pursue a career as a dresser in theatre or working in theatre and film work rooms. In the meantime, I plan to work on my own personal sewing and knitting projects, including making my outfit for graduation.
