After completing a degree in Costume, I have discovered many things about myself and what I enjoy and thrive at doing. With a drive to learn new things and a fascination with costume making processes, I have found myself loving costume more and more each day. With the help from the AUB staff and the other students on the Costume course, I learnt many new skills that are transferable to the industry, but also made many friends and enjoyed every step of my university experience.
The following pieces are my works from my third year on the Costume degree. I've worked and collaborated with many different people on many different productions. I made a three-piece suit which includes an 18th century frock coat, waistcoat and breeches for the AUB production of Moonfleet, where I expanded my skills within tailoring and hand sewing. I also worked on the AUB production of GrimmTales, where I made four different costumes. I made a bodice (which was a replica of a bodice from the AUB costume store) and a pair of panniers for one of the step-sisters from the Ashputtel tale, two hedgehog costumes and a 3D-structured costume that replicated the wind.
Plans after degree
With a passion for all things costume, I would love to explore the film and theatre industry. I have had work opportunities making for film and music with theatre being the next industry I want to pursue. I also have an attachment to bridal wear and tailoring and can see myself working within the wedding sector making couture, custom-made gowns and suits.
Whilst I've enjoyed my work experience within the costume industry, I find myself falling for every new thing I learn and wanting to enter a new industry often. My plan for work after university is to explore as many different industries as I can and learn new skills from each job.
