Course: BA (Hons) Textiles Design
Graduated: 2023
Since graduating, Pia Elliot has continued to develop her artistic practice and is now a well-known name within the Dorset art scene. After initially taking on a graduate role in digital embroidery, she quickly realised that the work, while creative, felt disconnected from her true passions, finding herself drawn back to her long-standing passion for pen and ink illustration.
Pia has been developing her self-taught pen and ink style from the age of 16. Her artistic focus centres on creating characterful illustrations of wildlife, inspired by animals she’s been fortunate enough to observe. Throughout her works, she aims to capture these encounters in ink, creating connections that invite viewers to appreciate nature’s delicate intricacies. By blending precision with expression, her illustrations offer a characterful aesthetic alongside emotional resonance.
Since returning to her illustration roots, Pia has showcased her works in a variety of solo and group exhibitions, while also undertaking a wide range of bespoke commission work. Her debut solo exhibition, Intricate Wilderness, marked a significant milestone, bringing together a collection of works that reflected her fascination with nature and detail. She was also recently selected to take part in The Great Tail Trail in support of Julia’s House Children’s Hospice, where she adapted her pen and ink style to a painted 3D sculpture for public display. Drawing workshops are another addition to her skill set, with an aim to aid relaxation through creativity.
Looking ahead, Pia is in the early stages of planning her next solo exhibition, celebrating the richness and complexity of British wildlife. This new body of work will explore a diverse range of native species including animals, plants, and insects, highlighting the vital role each plays in its ecosystem and encouraging a deeper appreciation for the natural world.
