A dynamic line-up of students from BA (Hons) Creative Writing, as well as Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) staff and local creatives, are to perform as part of this year's Bournemouth Writing Festival.
Launched in 2023, the award-winning Bournemouth Writing Festival features an extensive showcase of interactive workshops, events and activities taking place from Friday 25 – Sunday 27 April.
The Making Waves Showcase Finale will feature new writing, celebrating and highlighting a range of writers from marginalised backgrounds including – but not limited to – working class, LGBTQ+, neurodivergent and disabled writers, as well as Creative Writing students from AUB.
Organisers are working on putting together a powerful performance, with booked performers including migrant and person-of-colour writers, as well as a local group of members recovering from addiction – “an eclectic mix of prose, poetry, and spoken word that will move, challenge, and inspire.”
The evening will be hosted by Dr James Cole, Course Leader for BA (Hons) Creative Writing at AUB, who says, “We’re very excited to be offering a platform for voices that are often unheard or marginalised – representation is hugely important and we’re looking forward to celebrating with a wide range of voices”.
Making Waves will also be headlined by award-winning author Ashley Hickson-Lovence (The 392; Your Show), whose most recent novel Wild East has just been nominated for the 2025 Carnergie Medal for Writing.
Ashley comments, “It’s an honour to be asked to headline the Making Waves celebration event next month.
“It promises to be an awe-inspiring evening shining a much-needed spotlight on talented writers and performers using the power of their often lesser-heard voices in creative and engaging ways. Not to be missed!”
Making Waves will take place at 19.30 on Sunday 27 April at Pavilion Dance South West, with Pay What You Can (PWYC) tickets available.
