The Foundation Summer Show celebrates the achievements of our students, providing an exciting platform to showcase their final project work to the public.

The Foundation Diploma in Art, Design and Media is an exciting and intense one-year (full-time) course, providing the opportunity for students to work across a range of specialist disciplines within the creative arts, that encourages risk-taking and experimentation with new materials, approaches and principles. The course gives a strong creative grounding and works to develop an individual’s artistic and creative practice within specialised methodologies of art, design and media.

Our Foundation Diploma develops students as independent learners, building strong portfolios and artistic direction and preparation for progression. The course acts as a bridge from Further Education into Higher Education, as well as offering a space in which to explore and develop artistic practice at any stage of life.

Foundation student work exhibited in this show demonstrates the diverse range of projects that are undertaken across its eight specialism areas:

  • 3D Art, Craft and Design
  • Creative Technologies
  • Fashion, Costume and Textiles
  • Film and Animation
  • Fine Art
  • Graphic Communication
  • Illustration
  • Photography

Large-scale, textile hanging displayed in the AUB gallery, depicting a loosely painted, seated young woman wearing a patterned floral dress and striped knee-high socks. The floral pattern flows off the dress onto the dyed red background, dispersing into intricate beaded embroidery, crochet, weaving and Lino cuts. Moving away from the figure, the dye fades and the corner of the piece is left draped and covered in macrame and fabric strands which hang below the bottom hem
