64 students at Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) have participated in seven overseas opportunities this summer across China, Vietnam and Italy.
Through a combination of international partnerships and Turing Scheme funding, students from AUB’s Foundation Diploma, Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses have been able to access transformative global learning experiences.
The largest of these initiatives has been the International Summer School at Nanjing University of the Arts (NUA), which welcomed 28 AUB students.
Meanwhile, the summer programme at British University Vietnam (BUV) was attended by a further 14 students.
“Getting the opportunity to study abroad in Vietnam was absolutely amazing,” says Roxan Arnold, who studies BA (Hons) Textiles Design at AUB. “It allowed me to experience what university life is like in a different country, whilst building friendships with both Vietnamese students and students from across the UK who were also there for the same reason as me.
“It allowed me to visit Vietnam with a much deeper understanding of its culture as the University helped us to connect with local people, try cultural dishes and visit both tourist attractions and lesser-known spots around Hanoi.
“Overall, having the opportunity to study in Vietnam has built up my confidence and encouraged me to look further into potential international programmes, and has made me fall in love with Vietnam, which I will 100% be visiting again.”
With co-ordination from the AUB International team, the opportunities have been accessible to all, welcoming and supporting students from underrepresented backgrounds and those with additional support needs.
23 of the 64 students received fully funded experiences, with no personal costs to attend.
The International team at AUB comments, “We are incredibly proud of what has been achieved this summer. Behind every placement, summer school and internship is a partnership, a funding application and a great deal of coordination to ensure students can make the most of these opportunities.
“Seeing 64 students benefit from experiences across China, Vietnam and Italy is a fantastic outcome and reflects the strength of AUB's international relationships. We know that these experiences can be life-changing, helping students build confidence, broaden their perspectives and enhance their future career prospects.”
Building on this success, AUB has since been awarded more than £82,000 through the Turing Scheme for the 2026/27 academic year.
This funding will support future student mobility opportunities, including international exchanges and summer programmes, enabling even more AUB students to benefit from life-changing global experiences.
