Emilia by Morgan Lloyd-Malcolm is a feminist play centred around Emilia Lanier (née Bassano) and celebrates those historically excluded from the narrative. It promotes inclusivity of race and gender by giving voice to perspectives traditionally silenced. The play is witty, fiery, and versatile, allowing performers to comment on contemporary society while engaging the audience. Emilia Lanier, the first woman in England to claim herself a professional poet, concealed her words in religious texts. Morgan Lloyd-Malcolm skilfully condenses history into an exciting, empowering production that inspires change for marginalised voices.
