English Language Requirements

To apply to AUB, you’ll need to have an English language qualification at the required level for the course you would like to study.

You can find guidance about which qualifications we accept below – this depends on the course you are apply for and whether you need a visa to study in the UK. You can check whether you do need a visa here.

Unfortunately, we cannot accept a letter from your school confirming your English Language proficiency.

If you need to take an IELTS or a similar test for non-UK students, then we recommend that you take this as soon as you can, ideally between March and May.

Doing so means you can sign up for our 13 week Pre-Sessional English course which starts in June.

We also offer a five week Pre-sessional course that starts in August. This course has a slightly higher English Language requirement, however, so make sure that you plan in advance.

Unfortunately, we cannot accept IELTS for Academic Purposes or General Tests.

SELTs must be taken at an approved test centre – you can find a list of these here.

Your SELT will have a UKVI number on the certificate which we need to be able to issue a CAS (Certificate of Acceptance to Study) to support a Tier 4 visa application.

IELTS for UKVI tests must be less than two years old at the start of the course to be valid.
