Odyssey Innovation
Developing proof of concept recycled marine plastic handplanes. Supported by European Regional Development Funding (ERDF).
About the project
Odyssey Innovation is an award-winning Cornwall business specialising in recycled marine plastics. Through specialist product development, the business turns waste plastic into kayaks and other products. Odyssey works with NGOs and harbour collection initiatives to bring in ghost fishing nets, sending them off to a specialist manufacturer for processing. The business continues to go from strength-to-strength and was a finalist in the Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) awards in 2019.
AUB Innovation met Rob Thompson, MD at Odyssey, at Venturefest South. A collaborative project was subsequently formed to help support the business in proof of concept testing of their new handplane product, which will be made from the same recycled marine plastic as the kayak.
After a successful Crowdfunder campaign, the product is now ready for manufacturing in the UK.
