About this course

Based at Arts University Bournemouth (AUB), you’ll train in our specialist acting studios, work in professional film spaces and perform in locations across our campus. You’ll explore movement, voice, singing, character and performance, as well as learning how acting styles change when you step in front of a camera.

From rehearsals and movement sessions to filming and live performances, every day will give you something new to try. You’ll be encouraged to experiment, work with others, and develop your confidence and performance style.

Along the way, you’ll build a collection of filmed work and professional headshots to add to your personal portfolio to support your future acting journey and give you something tangible to remember your summer experience at AUB.

You’ll learn how to use your body and voice with confidence as well as developing believable characters and respond to different performance styles and spaces. You’ll also explore how your approach changes when performing live compared with acting for film and television.

A key part of the course will be collaborating with students from the Filmmaking and Production summer course. You’ll have the opportunity to work with aspiring filmmakers and perform in their student films, experiencing what it’s like to work as an actor on a film set.

You’ll also prepare a live performance for fellow students and AUB staff, putting your skills into practice and celebrating everything you’ve created during the course. This will be part of our end-of-course exhibition where all students have the opportunity to showcase their work (friends and family are also welcome!)

Alongside your performances, you’ll have the opportunity to record filmed work and receive professional headshots to take home, giving you a collection of material to remember your experience and support future applications or auditions. You’ll also get the opportunity to speak with AUB staff who can answer questions about studying at AUB and provide feedback and guidance on audition processes – so you’ll be all set to apply!

Through a variety of workshops, you’ll learn different elements within acting, such as learning lines, movement, voice and singing, stage presence, audition processes, the difference between theatre, film and TV, and more.

And when you're not rehearsing or performing, you'll be part of an international group of students, with a full programme of evening and weekend activities giving you the chance to make friends, explore Bournemouth and experience university life.
