Course information

Whether you’re creating brochures, magazines, portfolios, books, posters or marketing materials, InDesign is an essential tool for designers, marketers, small business owners and aspiring creatives. This course will guide you step-by-step through the fundamentals of professional layout design, helping you build confidence and technical skill in a supportive studio environment.

Through a series of hands-on workshops and project-based tasks, you’ll learn how to structure documents effectively, work with grids and guides, combine text and imagery, and create visually compelling layouts. You’ll explore typography, hierarchy, composition and branding principles, developing an understanding of how strong design communicates clearly and professionally.

As the course progresses, you’ll gain insight into preparing artwork for both print and digital output, understanding file formats, exporting correctly, and applying best practice workflows used within the creative industries.

By the end of the course, you'll have produced a range of professional-quality layout projects and developed the skills to confidently create your own publications – whether for personal, academic or commercial use.

Will I be assessed?

No, there's no formal assessment. As the course progresses your tutor will measure your overall performance and offer essential guidance and feedback, so you know how you're getting on.

Tuesday 12 January – 16 March 2027 (10 Tuesday evenings, 18.00–21.00)

Suitable for adults aged 18+.

Level

This is an introductory course – no previous experience with Adobe InDesign is required.

Experience or qualifications required

Basic computer literacy is recommended. This course is suitable for beginners as well as those wishing to refresh and formalise existing skills.

Any additional costs

Access to Adobe InDesign outside of class is beneficial but not essential. If you're unsure about software access, your tutor will provide guidance during the first session.

Additional materials and resources will be provided by AUB and is included in your course fee.
