Course information

Through guided exercises, reflective moments and supportive group discussions, you'll explore how careful observation and personal reflection can enrich your writing. The course encourages you to consider both the external landscape and the inner emotional landscape, helping you develop authentic narratives and compelling descriptions inspired by the environment around you.

You'll also be introduced to the genre of nature writing, exploring its traditions, contemporary directions, and growing relevance in conversations about ecology and the environment. Working with published extracts and practical writing exercises, you'll gain tools to deepen your engagement with place and sharpen your creative voice.

The workshop provides a welcoming and supportive space to experiment, share ideas, and learn alongside fellow writers. By the end of the day, you'll have developed new approaches to observation, storytelling and creative practice that can be applied to fiction, non-fiction or poetry.

  • An introduction to the genre of nature writing, including its history and projections for the future.
  • The focused study of published extracts of nature and eco-conscious writing with friendly discussion.
  • Guided practices in the literary technique of close observation, which can be applied to any form of writing: fiction, non-fiction, or poetry.
  • Ways to find your unique perspective, hone your writerly voice and establish good habits for creativity.

At the end of the course, you'll:

  • Gain confidence in generating ideas and developing creative writing inspired by nature.
  • Strengthen their observational skills and ability to translate experience into vivid writing.
  • Explore different approaches to narrative, reflection, and descriptive writing.
  • Develop a deeper connection to the natural environment through creative practice.
  • Leave with practical tools to develop an idea into a finished piece of writing.

On completion of the programme, you can request an official AUB Academy Certificate of Attendance.
