Hi, I’m Xiaoyue, a comic artist and illustrator from China and a recent graduate from Arts University Bournemouth. With experience in comics and freelance illustration, I enjoy using expressive colour, layered textures and rich, visual details to create images that invite viewers to engage with the story.

My work explores memory, relationships and everyday experiences. Whether creating comics or illustrations, I am interested in how visual storytelling can communicate emotion, preserve cultural experiences, and encourage audiences to see familiar subjects from new perspectives.

My recent graphic novel, Our Funeral, is set during a traditional funeral in rural Sichuan. Through the perspective of a young girl attending her grandmother’s funeral, the story explores how family traditions, memory and gender expectations shape relationships across generations. The work combines digital drawing, collage and paper-cutting to evoke both the physical atmosphere of the funeral and the fragmented nature of memory.

I hope to create work that invites curiosity, encourages empathy, and opens conversations about culture, family and the stories we inherit.

After completing my degree, I plan to continue developing my practice by participating in more in-person creative events, including comic festivals, illustration fairs and independent bookshop events, where I can connect with readers, artists and the wider creative community.
