I worked as a 2D background artist on several student films in my third year, then chose to further expand my skills by creating fantasy creatures for our final unit.

My work primarily consists of 2D digital environments and creature design. I love creating rich worlds that provide questions for people to answer on their own. I primarily focus on fantastical environments as with my work in Duality, which showcases a rich, alien environment inspired by Scavenger’s Reign (2023).

Though my work usually aims for a more realistic style, I greatly enjoyed working on layouts and background painting for Backseat Joyride, which features a vastly different style inspired by Steven Sugar’s work on Steven Universe (2013–19).

In my creature design, I always seek to explain the fantastical, drawing on real elements of extant species to aid my fiction. My work in creatures is founded on my love of the strange and sundry creatures in real life, and I aim to honour the absurdity of biology in my work. I always aim to make creatures appealing without the aid of anthropomorphism, as I find a greater reward in portraying the lives of animals without any human involvement.

In my own time, I love birdwatching, Dungeons & Dragons, cooking and learning about strange animals. I also love all things related to stop-motion.

Plans after degree

Upon graduating, I hope to join a studio in the UK or Ireland as a Layout Artist. In my work for creature design, I plan to continue in my free time, though I am open to working as a creature designer in the animation or games industry. I am also currently working on a collaborative game with another AUB student as a creature designer.
