The collection’s concept – “Challenger” – focuses on the inspiration from the idea of jesters in the medieval time in European countries and the Fool character in Vietnamese traditional musical performance, aiming to explore my personal cultural fusion experience as a Cantonese Vietnamese international student.

With the research centring around the traditional Nhật Bình costume, a detailed analysis about the costume’s silhouette, constructing methods and pattern designs has been conducted, alongside with my research on Chinese knot for details on garments in my collection to imply my mixed cultural background. 

Through “Challenger”, I want to express the younger generation’s courageous and willingness to break out of the norms and prejudices, like how the Fool is not a foolish character but a wise man undercover. With Nhật Bình and its pattern designs symbolise peace and fulfilment, the collection carries the wish for a smooth journey to who are willing to challenge.
