Subarna Mukherjee

I work primarily with oil and acrylic on canvas, occasionally venturing into sculpture and photography. My practice explores the absurdity and spirituality of life, using portraiture and compositional work drawn from personal experience. Deep reds, blues, and blacks dominate my palette, creating rich, textured surfaces that evoke a sense of mystery. Through the interplay of light and shadow, I aim to give depth and presence to my subjects, often creating a sense of direct engagement with the viewer.

Each piece either unfolds as a layered narrative or forms a thread in a broader web of interconnected works. I strive to capture emotions that are both intimate and universal moments of quiet unease, glimpses of the sacred within the grotesque, and the flicker of light that persists at the edge of darkness.

Plans after degree

Working as an art studio assistant, and I'll soon be working as a course assistant for Saturday Art School.

The current plan is to work in the creative field, gain experiences, either as an art educator, creator or a position in a creative role while also continuing my own art practice. I also look forward to putting on exhibitions solo or group wherever I get the opportunity, connect through social media to grow my audience and finally sell my work.
